A Lot Can Change in 12 Months

It’s the start of 2017 – a brand new year – and as I sit back with my computer, seat reclined on an evening flight to Brisbane, I realise that an awful lot can change in just one year. To my left, my five year old boy is watching the movie Storks on his ipad. To my right, I see my husband restfully taking a nap after a busy day.

Here we are – 2017 –and we are based in Adelaide, with a fast moving online holiday company. We are living a life of freedom, business and travel.

Rewind 12 months.

Almost exactly this time last year, we were living in Brisbane, where we had been residing for many years. I was on a flight from Brisbane to my hometown of Adelaide with my son to see family while my husband remained at our home in Brisbane working on our company. We had just spent a lovely Christmas in Brisbane with our good friends.

At that moment in time, we didn’t know that just six months later, we would be moving back to our hometown of Adelaide after being away for nearly a decade! It was a tough decision to make, but we thought that returning to our hometown would be a good opportunity to progress our company while being closer to family. For us, it’s been a year of change, innovation and growth. As a family, we have transitioned from the “employee life” to the “entrepreneur life”, and it’s awesome. The entrepreneurial journey all started in 2010, when I wanted an alternative to being a corporate employee as I was facing the start of parenthood. This desire saw me build my first ecommerce website; then replicate this formula with other websites I created. Having built so much knowledge and life experience by this point, I was ready to share it with the world and wrote a book (and created this blog) so that I could help others accelerate their own journey. You can take a look at it here: http://bit.ly/2iAj8oQ.

My husband has now joined me on this entrepreneurial journey and together we’re running our own online company and loving it.

The truth is, you have the power to change your life to be the way you want it to be; at any time! Whether you are single, married, parents of young children or employees of a large corporate organisation; there is always the opportunity to create the life you want. There is always a way to make it work.

I have seen so many people willingly exclude themselves from this type of lifestyle, even though they love the concept of it, because they are afraid of change; fearful of making mistakes and not knowing what to do to create the life they want. This means that a much smaller percentage of people become entrepreneurs. Then, of those, it is 50% who succeed and 50% who “fail” (or more accurately, give up).

If the fear of “failure” is stopping you, you should know that the only time you fail, is when you give up. If you make mistakes, you can always correct them. If your business model is questionable, you can adapt and change it; if the product isn’t selling, you can refine it or replace it; if your business strategy isn’t working, you can alter or adapt it; and if you happen to be the roadblock, you can change your own attitude and mindset to reach your goals.

There is always a way to keep moving forward and finding what works; this brings you closer to success.

Success is inevitable when you don’t give up, remain committed to your goal and set yourself up to succeed. Look how quickly you can transform your life! As I can attest, all it takes is 12 months.

So how will you be changing things for the better in 2017?
